Spring has Sprung

Well, it's been almost a month since my last post and we have made decent progress. We've painted (love the colors) and almost completed roof (looks done to naked eye but lots of detail work left). The floors have also been cleaned, buffed, sealed and covered to protect from interior work. Brandon thinks he is the king of the world on my dad's backhoe and is clearing away. PEC has finally started rolling and has dug the pole holes and should be out to finish this week.

We have hit a few roadblocks, but are holding strong and moving forward...Our problem is we put alot into a small footprint and this allowed very little room for error when it came to translating plans to real-life construction...lesson learned the hard way.

1. Baby room closet has been reduced to allow for A/C air-handler space needed due to our spray foam insulation.
2. The beautiful kitchen wall of windows was actually designed with no space between the windows allowing just enough room for upper cabinets on the adjacent wall, but as you can see there IS space between them and nobody noticed the error until it was time to finalize the kitchen cabinet layout, so the adjacent wall does not allow for upper cabinets to fit properly without covering the window. Soooo we are doing an open-shelf/cabinet combo that hopefully looks intentional. We should see final drawings this week to approve. Fingers crossed :-).
3. And the MOTHER of all goofs is in our 2nd full bath. Not until we saw the pocket door frame installed between the sink area and the toilet/tub area did we realize, despite how it "looked" on the plans there is NO POSSIBLE WAY to walk through the door. The toilet should have been designed to be on the same wall as sinks and pocket door opening be in line with the main swinging door entrance to allow for a nice clean path from entrance all the way to the tub wall. Of anything that has come up so far, this is the one that really stings! It will cost way too much time and money to move the toilet to the other wall, considering the pipes were run before the foundation was poured. It can be done, but at too much of a price, sooo we are opting for removing the pocket door altogether allowing enough reasonable clearance to walk between the far sink and the toilet. Fingers crossed that this looks intentional in the end!!!
4. And the last that I can think of is that Drew and baby Lilli's bedroom windows did not pass egress inspection and have to be replaced-as if there have not already been enough problems with the windows! (If you didn't know yet, we're naming baby Brasher Lilli-Marie :-))...

...With that all said, we're still excited and cautiously optimistic we will be moving in during May just in time for Baby Lilli's arrival :-). Life is good...
